Stuttgart: Mercedes-Benz Museum and 125 years of the automobile
As SouthWest Germany celebrates the 125th birthday of the car, invented by Carl Benz in Mannheim in 1886, the company that still bears his name tells the tale of the invention that changed the history of the world.
The Mercedes-Benz Museum covers the 125-year history of the automotive industry from day one to the present. The striking contemporary building is an architectural gem: nine floors with 175,000 sq ft/16,500 sq m of space to show off 160 historic vehicles and more than 1,500 exhibits. The museum looks forward as well as back, with glimpses of the future and exhibitions presenting the history of Mercedes-Benz. Alongside the permanent exhibition are special temporary displays, the museum shop and the restaurant: all guarantee an unforgettable day out.
