Black Forest Central/North Nature Reserve

As Germany’s largest conservation area, the central and northern areas of the Black Forest offer a varied landscape of extensive forests, meadows and pastures, bogs and glacial cirque lakes.

This is pretty hiking country, whether you follow the “NaTouren” paths, the Baden-Baden Wilderness Trail, or go with one of the specially-trained Schwarzwald Guides, Black Forest guides. A wide range of activities are highlighted on our Naturpark Schwarzwald Mitte/Nord web pages.

The Black Forest is also known for its local, organic produce: honey, beef, lamb and Schnapps, locally distilled fruit brandies. Taste them at one of the 25 Nature Reserve restaurants, at farmer’s markets (fresh fruit, seasonal vegetables, potatoes, sausages, bread fresh from the wood-fired oven, cheese), or on the farms themselves during the Taste of the Black Forest weekend (first weekend in August).
