This attractive conservation area is all about nature at its best: sparkling streams and meandering rivers, unspoiled woodland and historic caves. With so many half-timbered houses and hamlets, fine castles and medieval towns, this is great touring country – by car, bike or on foot.
A particularly attractive destination is the UNESCO World Heritage Site that recalls “the Limes,” the border of the Roman Empire. Over 30 miles/50 km of these 1,800-year-old defenses run through the Reserve, making this spot a living history book about the Romans.
