Upper Danube Nature Reserve

With its castles and palaces, this beautiful landscape is a lovely place to explore.

Covering some 55 small towns 25 miles/40 km north of Lake Constance, the Upper Danube Nature Reserve is almost all Jurassic limestone. Some 3,000 miles/5,000 km of hiking trails criss-cross the region, often passing castles and ruins, or offering fantastic views of the deep valleys of the Danube and its tributaries. Especially popular is the Danube Cycle Path (Donauradweg), which cuts through the area.

On weekends and holidays between May and October, the Nature Park Express (Naturpark-Express) is a special train that runs between smaller towns along the Danube. Between Sigmaringen and the Blumberg-Zollhaus, they provide a special compartment for bikes.
