Heilbronn
Thanks to Kathy of Heilbronn, a 19th-century play, the city is special for German speakers. That is why Kathy’s House (Käthchenhaus) is an attraction on the tourist trail, along with an 11th-century church (Kilianskirche), and a cheerful farmer’s market (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) in front of the historic town hall.
Set on the Neckar River, Heilbronn is surrounded by vineyards, where wineries serve local Swabian dishes.
Highlights
- Boat trips: Cruise towards Heidelberg or Bad Wimpfen along the Neckar River.
- Astronomic clock: The most photographed sight is the 1580 clock that tells you the days, weeks and months. Be there on the hour to see two golden mechanical rams butt each other as the clock strikes; at 8 am, noon, 4pm and 8 pm, a cock crows.
- Wine Villa (Wein Villa): Heilbronn is renowned for its wines; taste 100 of the best local wines in this palazzo.
