In 1972 the art dealer Meinrad Kirner took over the Höchenschwanderschmiede from his father in the third generation. This was in today's gallery to the old smithy. Noise emissions and a broader need for space, however, led to the relocation of the smithy to the commercial area of Höchenschwand in 1980. From 1982 Meinrad Kirner used the old smithy as a gallery for his works. Since then, the Galerie zur Alten Schmiede in Höchenschwand is not only a historical monument of successful local history, but also a space for high-quality traditional crafts.
In October 2016, the Kunstwerkstube in the Höchenschwandergalerie zu Altenschmiede celebrated its reopening. It reverts to the gallery's tried-and-tested concept, offering fine traditional craftsmanship. The assortment of the Kunstwerkstube includes high-quality, German wood art from the Erzgebirge also elaborately designed windrose from the forgemith Meinrad Kirner and stylish, mouth-blown glass. In addition, special didactic children's games and small gifts are offered on the spinokel play meadow and individual antique pieces. Here, young and old in a historic building will find special treasures that simply delight. Come and see for yourself! "
