Blautopf

Thanks to the limestone geology of the Swabian Mountains, the area is riddled with caves and sink holes. With its deep blue water, the Blautopf (it means Blue Pot) has long fascinated locals as well as visitors. Near Blaubeuren and the former monastery, the Blautopf is actually where Germany’s largest underground spring surfaces from a cave. As long as there hasn’t been rain to muddy the water, it is usually an attractive deep blue!

Blaubeuren is 50 miles/80 km southeast of Stuttgart.
