Built in 1480 in the "raging waters of the Danube", the city wall was erected as a bulwark against enemy armies.

Today, the city wall is used as a popular promenade that leads along the Danube from the Lauseck bastion at the fishermen's quarter, past the butchers tower (Metzgerturm) to the Friedrichsau.
