Karl Egon Fürst zu Fürstenberg (1820 – 1892) had the monument with the beautiful view of the New Palace erected in 1870 above a terrace of red sandstone in gratitude because a riding accident of his son had gone so smoothly eight years earlier.
The open, semi-circular column hall with stone benches was built according to the plans of architect Theodor Diebold (1817 – 1872) and is reminiscent of an ancient exedra. The center piece is a statue of a guardian angel made of white marble on a high pedestal. The Angel is a work of the sculptor Franz Xaver Reich (1815 – 1881), who also executed the figurative relief in the gable of the drinking hall.
