As early as 1500 there was a restaurant at this point in front of the city gates. In 1622 Field Marshal Tilly moved into quarters here after taking the city in the Thirty Years' War. In the 18th century, the building was rebuilt after the town fire in 1689; only the cellar with the year 1605 is evidence of the older development. In the middle of the 19th century, revolutionary ideas were spun in the “Zum schwarzen Bären”. This is where the democrats gathered around the pharmacist Gustav Mayer and Georg Dörner, owner of the "Zum Schwarzen Bären".
