Altarpieces
of Swabian, Upper-Rhenish and Northern Swiss provenance from Meßkirch
to Zeitblom, as well as works by Lucas Cranach and sculptures by
Riemenschneider or Mauch form a convincing museum of the Middle Ages.
The highlight of the collection is Holbein`s Virgin of Mercy. This
famous Madonna of the Lord Mayor Jacob Meyer zum Hasen, painted by
Hans Holbein the Younger is one of the most important works of art of
the 16th century.
