Inspired by the novel 'Lichtenstein' by Wilhelm Hauff, the castle was built in neo-Gothic style in 1840-1842, the only one in the world to be based on a novel. The castle grounds include the Gerobau, the chapel, an extensive castle garden and the romantic castle courtyard. In the restored chambers of Count Wilhelm von Württemberg, the opulent splendour of late Romantic living culture is on display.
Lichtenstein Castle is a historic 19th century castle. It is located on the Alb ridge of the Swabian Alb at an altitude of 817 m above sea level.
