The tree is in the village centre opposite the Edeka Fechtig supermarket. With a height of 26.5 m and a circumference of 1.85 m, it towers above the surrounding houses.
The tree was planted to celebrate the end of the Franco-German war (1870-1871). Today, it shapes the image of Birkendorf. The mammoth tree is unique to the Black Forest Highlands region, and it is rare for it to grow at an altitude of 779 m above sea level.
