At the end of the 11th century, the Dukes of Zähringen founded a Benedictine abbey in St. Peter which served them as a burial ground and family monastery.
The abbey served as a seminary for more than 160 years and has housed theSpiritual Centreof the Freiburg Archdiocese since 2006. The centre is a place for meeting and reflecting. Numerous guest groups come together here to attend seminars and listen to talks.
The baroque Parish Church of “Peter and Paul” is always accessible. However, the former monastery with the Rococo Library can only be viewed during scheduled tours.
