About Ochsenhausen
Even from a distance, you can see the huge complex of the former Benedictine Abbey in Ochsenhausen. The originally Gothic (and later Baroque) basilica with its rich array of decoration is considered a jewel of Southern German Baroque. A real attraction for music and organ fans is the famous “Gabler” organ in the basilica, created by the Baroque master organ builder Joseph Gabler. Concerts, exhibitions, the monastery museum and the state academy for young musicians – located in the former convent buildings – make the monastery the region’s cultural centre. A special experience to be had is a ride on the historic “Öchsle” railway.
