Schauwerk Sindelfingen
Beschreibung
The SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen presents the previously almost unknown collection of international contemporary art of Peter Schaufler and Christiane Schaufler-Münch. Over the past 30 years, the collector couple has amassed more than 3,000 works, making it one of the largest private art collections in Germany. High-ranking positions of German, but also international art - especially from Italy, France, Asia and South America - are represented.
Focal points of the collection at SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen: Minimal Art, Conceptual Art, Concrete Art
In addition to works from the ZERO movement, which were among the collector couple's first acquisitions, the focus is on minimal art, conceptual art and concrete art. Painting and sculpture play an important role, as do light works, spatial installations and contemporary photography. Historical positions such as Dan Flavin, Donald Judd and Hanne Darboven are represented here, as are artists who continue to pursue these lines of development today. Larger work complexes such as those by Imi Knoebel, Sylvie Fleury or Gerwald Rockenschaub characterize the collection to the same extent as smaller groups of works by Michelangelo Pistoletto, John Angus Chamberlain, Anselm Kiefer, Isa Genzken and others.
The diversity of the collection is characteristic: the exhibition picks up on different currents of art and looks for commonalities in ideas, attitudes and phenomena. The points of contact between art, nature and technology refer to the life of the collector. Peter Schaufler took over the management of Bitzer Kühlmaschinenbau GmbH in Sindelfingen in 1979. During this time, he also discovered contemporary art as a source of inspiration and began collecting.
Architecture of the SCHAUWERK
In order to make the outstanding collection accessible to the public, spacious exhibition areas were created in part from former production and storage halls of Bitzer Kühlmaschinenbau GmbH in Sindelfingen. Supplemented by a newly erected museum building, a spacious and elegant complex with around 6,500 m² of presentation space is now available. The building designed by the Stuttgart-based firm BFK Architekten impresses with its formal rigor, clarity and perfect implementation.
