St. Fridolinsmünster (a baroque styled minster)
From far afield the bright towers of the minster St. Fridolin of Bad Säckingen are on view. In the 17th and 18th century restored baroque styled church building recalls of the greatness and importance of it's own abbey, which led to the foundation of the town.
Beschreibung
The Fridolin shrine is a gem of the silver smithery. In 1764 this shrine was completed by the silversmith Gottlieb Emmanuel Oernster for the relics absorption from missionaries Fridolin. The silver shrine, in its rare uncommon configuration, is positioned in an artful casing in the chapel on the right side in the minster chancel.
On the feast day of the saints, the Sunday after the 6th of March, the Rokkoko-shrine is carried across the streets of town with a solemnly procession.
Who goes to see the treasure chamber can guess how huge the influence from the former abbey with its abbesses and canonesses out of many types of nobility had been. Many important cultural relationships developed through the centuries out of it, testified by the valuable art treasures.
What was left after the abbey secularisation in 1806 are the following artefacts:
silver and goldsmith pieces, liturgical objects and paraments, among others a pear wood box from the 10th and 14th century, a processional cross called »Agnesenkreuz« ornamented with unique gem as well from the 14th century.
