The "Horchender" stands on the square of 23 February 1945, in the area of the Lower Market Square.
The sculpture was made by Fritz Nuss in 1963 and came to Pforzheim on the occasion of the exhibition "Art in the City" in 1984.
The sculpture is naked and squats on a 35 cm high pedestal. He has bent his knees, his left arm rests on his left knee. He has his right hand on his ear like a kind of funnel to be able to hear better. The sculpture would be about 2.80 metres tall when standing and thus superhuman. His limbs and extremities are relatively long and large in relation to his head.
The surface of the sculpture is also not smooth, but shows various colourations and traces of workmanship. It is a surface that has been worked through, on which light and shadow also play a major role.
You can learn more about the Harking Man and other sculptures from the art historian Regina M. Fische in various videos on the subject of "Art in the City".
