The center of the Schlossplatz, where Breisach Castle stood from the 12th to 18th centuries, is occupied by the Tulla Tower, built in 1874, a lookout tower as the central monument of the Rhine riparian communities of Baden to the "tamer of the wild Rhine", Johann Gottfried Tulla (1770-1828).

The “Tullaturm” (Tulla Tower) was built in 1874 as a memorial to Tamer of the Wild Rhine Johann Gottfried Tulla (1770-1828). The Breisach Theatre Festival has been taking place here since 1962, on an annual basis from mid June until the beginning of September.
