Montfort Castle - Langenargen's landmark
Montfort Castle, located on a promontory in Lake Constance, was built in the 14th century by the Counts of Montfort as a castle complex. After an eventful history, the construction of today's castle took place between 1861 and 1866 by King Wilhelm I of Württemberg and his heir to the throne Karl. The castle, built in the Moorish style, subsequently served as the summer residence of Princess Luise of Prussia, who spent the summer months in Langenargen with her court for 30 years.
Montfort Castle has been owned by the municipality of Langenargen since 1961. Today, guests in the castle will find a restaurant-café with a sun terrace as well as rooms for weddings, conferences, congresses and company events for 10 to 300 people.
A special experience is climbing the tower. From the tower of the castle, the visitor can enjoy a wonderful view of the lake, the Swiss Alps opposite and the hilly hinterland. The view of the historic center of Langenargen and the picturesque municipal harbor is also fascinating. The tower can be climbed from March to October daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
