The castle complex was built in the 13th century by the lords of Urach. It was mentioned in a document in 1316 as burg ze Úra. In the 14th and 15th centuries it was owned by the Lords of Blumegg and was the center of the Lenzkirch dominion. In 1491 it was sold to the Counts of Fürstenberg, but at that time it was already called a castle stable, i.e. uninhabitable. Since 1972 it has been owned by the municipality of Lenzkirch and is looked after by the Schwarzwaldverein Lenzkirch.
