Gutach im Breisgau’s history has been shaped by the sewing thread manufacturer Gütermann Nähseide, which is based there and which brought wealth to the village over 100 years ago. Villas and art nouveau buildings along the Elz still bear witness to this affluence and give the village its distinctive appearance. The villas also border a nine-hole golf course with a driving range laid out by Gütermann. Other leisure facilities in Gutach include an open-air swimming pool with a beach volleyball court.
St. Georgskirche (Church of St. Georg) in the official health resort of Bleibach is well worth a special visit for anyone interested in art history. It boasts a Dance of Death which is unique in southern Germany. As well as this, the church also has a distinctive architectural style, making it a striking landmark of Bleibach.
Walks along the woodland nature trail, which starts in Bleibach, allow children and adults alike to find out about the ecosystem of the forest while having fun.
Picturesque Black Forest farms make for an attractive sight in the village areas of Siegelau and Oberspitzenbach. Visitors can opt for a farm stay in Gutach im Breisgau or choose from one of the many family-run guesthouses or hotels.
