Vacations on Lake Constance are pure bliss. History, spas and outdoor activities are all readily available on “Germany’s Riviera” – as are excellent restaurants and wine cellars.

Cultural hot spot

Three of Germany’s finest cultural attractions are here. Start with the glorious sub-tropical gardens on the island of Mainau. Move on to the monastic island of Reichenau, connected to the mainland by a causeway. This UNESCO World Heritage site has 1,000-year-old churches, as well as the astonishing Abbey of Reichenau itself. Reflecting an even older era is Unteruhldingen, an open air museum where they have reconstructed a Neolithic and Bronze Age village, set on wooden piles in the lake.

Vacation on Lake Constance: sheer relaxation

Of course, Lake Constance is all about water sports. Whether you enjoy sailing, surfing or swimming, there is no more beautiful spot, with its stunning views of the Alps. Or just relax and soak up the sun.

Feasting on Lake Constance

No vacation is complete without a meal of “Felchen”, the best known and most popular fish from Lake Constance. The best accompaniment for this fresh-water white fish is a local white wine, such as a Müller-Thurgau. The mild climate round the lake is perfect for grapes, and a summer highlight is one of the many wine festivals. The lake region is also known for its orchards, especially Lake Constance apples. That’s why harvest time in autumn is a lovely time to visit.

Wellness and Lake Constance

The region has many wellness hotels and spa resorts. Several are right on the lake itself. Hotels in Überlingen and Meersburg offer sauna and soothing “Hot Stone,” treatments, with relaxing views of the deep blue lake and the snow-capped Alps.
