The pianist Martin Stadtfeld is an exception in today's cultural scene. Like only Grigory Sokolov, Stadtfeld gives solo concerts. He can afford it. His loyal audience has followed him on his artistic path for years. Stadtfeld, who reached the top of the German classical music charts with Bach's Goldberg Variations, recently released a CD of German folk songs, nothing folksy, but serious, highly artistic mediations. At the Festspielhaus, Stadtfeld will perform a self-composed Fantasie überein Skizzenblatt by the young Beethoven - alongside music by Bach, Chopin, Brahms and Wagner.
