La Capitale d' Été There is no need to mention that Baden-Baden has been added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. Even on the first walk through the historic centre, the city opens up like a jewellery box. Yet many precious things remain invisible, hidden in traditions that are upheld here.
For example, the idea of the music festival in Baden-Baden was invented by Hector Berlioz, who conducted the first ever festival here in the 19th century summer - a fact that we commemorate with a special concert during the summer festival. In this celebratory concert marking the 25th anniversary of the Festspielhaus, Joyce DiDonato will be accompanied by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and his Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. The programme continues with Brahms' Symphonies Nos. 3 and 4, following Nos. 1 and 2 last year. Much could be said about Brahms and Baden-Baden; we refer to the composer's summer cottage. Renée Fleming will also take us to nature - to finally sing her way into our hearts as Verdi's Ophelia.
