Since the beginning of her career, Hélène Grimaud has favoured the German classics - also repeatedly in Baden-Baden. At the centre of her current programme are Brahms' last piano works. But one can hardly speak of a "centre" in this case, since all the works presented are among the most sacred of the piano repertoire. Beethoven's late sonata presents us with the composer as a romantic and thus ushers in the epoch from which the old Brahms then bid a melancholy farewell with his piano pieces.
