Another record: the small town of Bamberg is home to one of the best orchestras in the world. María Dueñas joins a great tradition at the Festspielhaus: with Beethoven's Violin Concerto, a work that became a classic because it does everything differently. A solo timpani opening a concerto for a melody instrument? What a tremendous provocation! Quite different from the timpani beats with which Brahms' first symphony begins. Here, the audience immediately thought they could hear the heavy course of fate - right up to the radiant brass chorales in the happy-ending finale, which still sweeps us off our feet today.
