Description
Hirsau was at one time one of the most important monasteries in Germany.
At the time of its construction in the late 11th century. The three-nave basilica of St. Peter and Paul was one of the largest Romanesque churches in southwestern Germany. Hermann Hesse has hiked a lot in and around Calw-Hirsau. Whether he roamed through the Wolf Gorge is not known for sure, but it was and is certainly an experience. The Wolfsschlucht can really be called an insider’s tip. In contrast to the Monbachtal further down the Nagold valley, the Wolfsschlucht is hardly known.
It is wild, the walk almost alpine. The gorge is geologically young and is constantly changing. Wild-romantic, but cosy, it goes through the fox blade to the restaurant of the same name. Today’s inn is attached to the former railway guard house. Here was the station “Fuchsklinge” of the railway line “Hirsau – Weil der Stadt. ”
