Hiking the Früchtetrauf Trail
Treats for hikers are guaranteed
Home to a 500-year-old university, Tübingen is set in the Swabian Alb, which is known for its outstanding network of hiking trails. Just follow the red apple logo! Special is the Früchtetrauf hiking region, named for trails that meander through orchards and vineyards. Good food and good wine go together, which is why one of the special hiking offers is the “Wanderschuh und Citysneakers”, the Hiking Boot and City Sneaker vacation package. Hikers are provided with a picnic featuring local delicacies and, in the evening, they dine on local dishes in atmospheric restaurants in Tübingen's old town.
Whether you base yourself in Tübingen or the nearby communities of Rottenburg and Mössingen, you are only steps away from trails in the orchards. And you are never far from the steep vineyards lining the Neckar Valley. Hike on the open rolling hills of the Swabian Alb or walk through the woods in the Schönbuch Nature Park. By following Germany’s certified premium trails, you are guaranteed well-maintained, clearly-signposted paths through unspoiled landscapes.
But less experienced hikers are catered for too, with the “Wegle”, the short, easy routes that have plenty of places to stop and enjoy views along the way. Not forgetting the temptations of farm shops and “Besenwirtschaften”, local pop-up taverns serving their own wine, cider and hearty regional specialties. Tübingen is 45 minutes south of Stuttgart.
☀Tip☀
In Mössingen, just south of Tübingen, visitors can pick up a packed lunch at the Café Pausa. The Mössinger Genusszeit basket is filled with seasonal and regional specialties from the orchards. Ideal for a picnic on the go!
