For connoisseurs: the "Alde Gott Panorama Tour"
Vineyards and orchards, waterfalls and schnapps fountains - around Sasbachwalden, a ten-kilometre gourmet trail leads through the ups and downs of the Black Forest wine village. Right at the start, it’s uphill, with the gorge of the Gaishöll waterfalls being the most difficult challenge of the tour. 13 bridges and 225 steps lead through the almost-one-kilometre-long wild, romantic gorge. After that, the first opportunity to stop and rest awaits.
The premium trail leads through chestnut forests, meadow orchards and vineyards, with a constant view of the white, half-timbered houses in the village centre, the winegrowers' farmsteads on the slopes and the Rhine Valley in the west. After about five kilometres, at the Königsrain winery, the hiking trail switches to the other side of the valley, to the Klosterschänke Schelzberg.
The Black Forest mountains, which rise almost 1,000 metres to the Hornisgrinde tower, provide the backdrop on the way back through the “Schelzberg” and “Alde Gott” vineyards. Here, hikers can also fortify themselves at one of the legendary schnapps fountains, where for a fee, everyone can supply themselves with fruit brandy, liqueurs and other varieties of schnapps, as well as cider and juice, all waiting in the fresh spring water. The flyer for the "Alde Gott Panorama Tour" is available from the Sasbachwalden tourist information office.
There is a beautiful, signposted access route to the gourmet path, which starts central at the “Zum Alde Gott” spa building. After a short ascent through vineyards that leads hikers to the "Badisch Bench", visitors get their first panoramic view of Sasbachwalden.
It’s worth making a stop at the adjacent schnapps fountain to enjoy a real sip of "Black Forest".
