Beschreibung
This tour begins in Metzingen, heading south. The route initially takes us through the forest, which ends at the lower reservoir of the Metzingen-Glems pumped-storage power station. On the way to Glems, we are treated to beautiful views extending into the Ermstal valley and ride through idyllic orchards. In Glems, the Fruit Tree Museum awaits—a visit is definitely worthwhile.
Between Glems and Dettingen, numerous information boards provide interesting insights into different fruit varieties, cultivation methods, and processing techniques. We then reach Dettingen an der Erms, with its charming town center, featuring picturesque half-timbered houses, making it an inviting spot for a short break.
The route continues above the Erms River to Bad Urach. Here, we can choose to take a detour into the historic center of the former royal residence town or stay on the trail and head directly back to Dettingen an der Erms. Between Dettingen and Metzingen, we pass the Metzingen vineyards on the right-hand side. The wines from the Metzingen Winegrowers' Cooperative are renowned beyond the region.
At the end of the tour, we can explore Metzingen: a testament to its winemaking tradition is the Kelternplatz, with its ensemble of seven historic wine presses. Additionally, Metzingen is home to OUTLETCITY, Europe’s largest outlet shopping destination.
Autorentipp

Wegbeschreibung
Our tour begins in Metzingen on Noyon-Allee. We cycle along the bike path by the road, cross Ulmer Straße, and shortly afterward turn right to continue along Auchtertstraße. We cross a bridge over the new B28 and then take the path into the forest, keeping to the left fork where the route initially descends gently. We follow this path straight ahead until reaching an intersection where we turn left. At the next fork, we keep right. After a left and a right bend, we continue straight and arrive at the lower reservoir of the Metzingen-Glems pumped-storage power station.
We cycle alongside the reservoir to the power station and then turn right. The route ascends slightly, crossing the main road. At the next fork, we keep left and shortly afterward turn right. Riding through orchards and enjoying stunning views of the landscape, we continue straight. A gentle descent takes us into Metzingen-Glems. In Glems, we follow the signs through the village. The route then descends slightly toward Dettingen an der Erms. Shortly before Dettingen, we pass under the B28 and turn right at the first crossroads. At the end of the street, we turn right again, and just before the railway tracks, we turn right and soon see an underpass on our left, which we take.
At the next intersection, we turn right and follow Karlstraße until we reach Milchgasse on the left, where we continue. After crossing the Erms River, we turn right onto Hülbener Straße and follow the bike path to Bad Urach. Over the Ermstal, the route continues straight along a scenic path. Eventually, we reach Bad Urach, where a detour into the historic town center is worthwhile. If we skip this detour, we turn left at the first crossroads and follow Eichhaldestraße uphill. After a right-hand bend in the road, we turn left twice. On the right, we come across a playground, where we enter the forest.
At the end of the forest, we reach a recreational area. Passing through Buchhalde, a settlement belonging to Dettingen an der Erms, we head north. At the edge of the settlement, a bike path leads us along Hülbener Straße back to Dettingen an der Erms. We stay on Hülbener Straße until Sägmühlengasse branches off to the right, which we follow. On Am Hammerweg, into which Sägmühlengasse merges, a path branches off to the left after a short distance. We follow this path, cross the main road, and find ourselves on Kappishäuser Straße.
At the edge of the town, where we can enjoy open views of meadows and fields to our right, we turn right, cross the main road to the left, and continue westward along Kastanienweg. At the next fork, we keep left. After a right-hand bend, we turn left at the second intersection and ride below the vineyards. Behind the building on the left, we turn left and shortly afterward turn right. At a fork in the road, we keep left and arrive at Steinerweg, where we again turn left.
We have now reached Metzingen. For the final stretch of the tour, we turn left onto Lerchenstraße, at the end of which we turn right. Heerstraße, where we now find ourselves, takes us back to Noyon-Allee, the starting and finishing point of our tour through Ermstal.
