Which came first, the hen or the egg? We don't know. But on this varied farm tour, we definitely meet the goats before the egg. At the organic farm Ziegenhütte Zollernalb, starting point of our circular bike tour on the hilly Alb plateau, we can learn a lot about goats and cheese dairy by the way and stock up on fresh goat cheese in the farm store.
Delicious regional products accompany the whole tour, the next destination is the Birkhof with daily fresh eggs from happy chickens. It's also worth slowing down at the Blickle dairy farm to catch a glimpse of farm life.
Enough braking, now we pedal past and discover the beauty of the Harthauser Heide with goats and sheep, game enclosures, paddocks and Mother Nature's very little helpers in the herb and insect garden. Informative panels on agriculture in the Alb and - with a little luck - distant views as far as the Alps make this adventure tour perfect. Healthy refreshment is available on top in the Kneipp facility and in the natural outdoor pool in Winterlingen.
After the bike tour, plan a visit to Winterlingen's natural outdoor pool. Buy regional products in the farm stores.
You can find detailed directions on the german website
The bike tour runs completely on the bike path network of Baden-Württemberg, yet the paths are also permitted for cars. Also the farms are approached by agricultural vehicles.
