Description
The trail is named after the "Wengert", the Swabian word for "vineyard", as it leads along and through steep vineyards below the Schönbuchtrauf, but also over gentle hills with idyllic orchards and through cool forest sections. From the southern forest path between Himbachtal and Baylerberg, we recommend a detour to the old sports field, where a barbecue area (signposted) invites one to take a break.
From the "Obere Gôgenhalde" ("Gôgen" is the name of the vintners in Tübingen), let your gaze wander over the Ammer Valley and the Wurmlinger Kapellenberg to the Swabian Alb - from Rossberg in the southeast over Hohenzollern castle in the south to Plettenberg in the southwest.
The area around the Unterjesinger Wengertwegle is classified as a landscape conservation area and Natura2000 site and thus also a bird sanctuary.
Author's recommendation
Combine your hike with a stop at one of the many "Besenwirtschaften" (Swabian vineyard's private bars, opened as soon as the new wine is ready to drink) in the district of Tübingen.
Directions
The Unterjesinger Wengertwegle leads from the "Kirchhalde" at the Unterjesinger cemetery through fragrant orchard meadows up to the Schönbuchtrauf. At the top, the trail first leads above the steep vineyards along the ridge, offering magnificent panoramic views over the Ammer Valley, before the path enters the shady forest of the Schönbuch Nature Park. The trail continues through the picturesque Himbachtal valley, where the path turns around and we briefly reach a sparse orchard landscape. Back into the forest, we pass the old sports field and enter a new landscape: the steeply terraced vineyards above the village of Unterjesingen. Along sunny vineyards we can once again enjoy magnificent views over the Kapellenberg to the heights of the Swabian Alb, before we take a relatively steep descent back to the starting point of the tour.
If you arrive by car, use the parking lot Sport- und Festplatz. From there, an access road leads through the historic town center to the starting point of the tour.
Equipment
No special equipment necessary. Suitable footwear is recommended.
Safety information
The trail is signposted and passable throughout.
Please do not leave the signposted paths. The flora and fauna along the way will thank you!
Our premium walking trails run partly on unpaved natural paths. This offers walking pleasure, but it can also cause soggy and somewhat slippery sections after rainfalls - especially with many visitors. Please be prepared by wearing suitable footwear or by giving the paths a few days to dry.
