Once a fishing village on the banks of the Rhine, during the 19th century Mannheim developed into a model of the innovative era of industrialisation. Few other cities in German can boast such a large number of significant industrial companies and innovative inventions. The automobile and the tractor both come from Mannheim, and the global company BASF was also founded here. The tour will start small and recount how major global companies came to be. You will learn about changes in working and living conditions, the transformed cityscape and the new social structure that arose as a result of industrialisation.
This tour is only available in German or French.
