Description
The KliffTour leads us in a loop out of the Brenztal to the Gerstetter Alb, where the traces of the primeval seas are still clearly visible. It requires a little more fitness, but rewards with magnificent nature and scenery. We leave the vibrant city through the Ugen valley. On our way we encounter near-natural agriculture. Cows, sheep and horses graze on the pastures and juniper heaths. Towns rich in tradition await us as soon as we reach the wide Alb plateaus. The landscape of the Kuppen- and Flächenalb was formed by the primeval seas. Various knowledge boards explain some peculiarities. Passing the 15 million year old Heldenfinger cliff we cycle over the 150 million year old reef to Gerstetten. There we can marvel at the fossilized underwater world in the reef museum before we cycle through the typical Alb hamlets of Erpfenhausen and Küpfendorf back down to Heidenheim.
Author's recommendation
