Description
The Löwenpfad trail “Ave-Weg” between Deggingen and Bad Ditzenbach has been certified by the German Hiking Association. The route consists of 8.5 kilometres altogether, starting at the pilgrimage church Ave Maria and going alongside the “Franziskuspfad” trail uphill to the Swabian Alb plateau. At the Kilianskreuz you will be rewarded with a splendid view of the Fils valley. The route carries on along steep Trauf rims to the Berneck Inn which is the first place to stop for a bite to eat.
Following that you will pass the Buschel chapel which lays upon the ruins of castle Berneck. The ruin itself doesn’t quite exist anymore, only its earthwalls can estimate its original size. The castle’s old fountain is still preserved although it doesn’t contain water anymore.
Next you will arrive at the “Affenbaum” from where you will have breath-taking views of the pilgrimage church Ave Maria and the Nothern Alb with its Hutewald forest. Then you will be led along the Oberberg rock with further views of “Goißatäle”, before heading back downhill back to the starting point.
