The Löwenpfad trail “Filstalgucker” has been certified by the German Hiking Association. The loop trail has a distance of 13.2 kilometres and starts at the car park at the church in Türkheim. After a short route through the village, you head southeast across meadows and fields into the beech forest before you reach open fields again after a few kilometres in northern Wittingen.
The trail follows narrow paths along the Alb edge and provides a fabulous view of the Rohrach valley, especially at the Tirol rock and at the Geiselstein. After a while the trail will lead you to the impressive Ostlandkreuz, a memorial cross, which towers high above the town of Geislingen an der Steige. The trail crosses Türkheimer Steige and continues along the Alb edge to the observation point Kahlenstein. Located next to it is the Kahlenstein cave which is also well worth a visit whilst being up there.
Right before finishing the tour back in Türkheim you come past the remains of an old castle with an amazing view over the upper Fils valley, before reaching the starting point again.
