Art, theatre and music have been supported alongside science in the Electoral seat since as far back as the 18th century. Carl Theodor founded both the Electoral Palatinate Academy of the Sciences and the National Theatre. The lives and accomplishments of illustrious personalities such as Mozart, Schiller and Voltaire are closely linked to the city. Today, Mannheim bears the title “UNESCO City of Music”, and provides cultural diversity ranging from classic to modern, from traditional to experimental, with its around 30 museums and galleries, various festivals and stages, and draws up-and-coming musicians from around the globe with the Popakademie. The cultural tour leads you from the Rosengarten Congress Centre, past the historic water tower and spectacular new-build that houses the Kunsthalle Mannheim art gallery, and through the squares to the Reiss-Engelhorn museum complex at Toulonplatz.
This tour can also be booked in German, French, Spanish and Russian.
