Description
Culture, history and tradition of the city and region of Schwetzingen come together on this route - and only 4.25 km are enough for that! The basis is provided by the soil and climate, the Palatine electors and, of course, the royal vegetables that have made Schwetzingen the capital of asparagus.
Every year, a good 1000 runners take part in the three distances - 600 m children's run, 5 km and 10 km.
The start and finish of our course is the bronze sculpture of the asparagus woman. She stands for the tradition of the noble vegetable in Schwetzingen and the asparagus market on the Schlossplatz. We walk around the palace and the palace garden.
On the way, we encounter history at every turn! We turn onto the castle axis, an imaginary line between the summit of the Königstuhl (near Heidelberg) and the summit of the Kalmit near Neustadt an der Weinstraße. On exactly this axis (it forms the symmetry axis of the park) lies Schwetzingen Castle, which we can see from the west before we start the final third of the asparagus run.
