The Celts and Romans already colonised the area that is now Bad Boll. After the fall of the Limes in the third century, Alemanni settled in the region. At the beginning of the ninth century, the first church was built on a hill somewhat away from the former village. The Old German word "bol" for a rounded, raised shape has been preserved in Swabian to this day as "Bollen" in the sense of a lump. The settlement near the church on the "bol" was given the name Boll.
