It was one of the richest monasteries in Württemberg, the Adelberg Monastery, which was founded in Barbarossa's time by the Order of the Prämonstratensians. In its heyday before the Reformation, it included ten villages, 19 hamlets, 37 farms, 22 mills and no less than 17 parish churches. Today the monastery is charmingly idyllic for many people seeking peace and quiet. The walled monastery grounds contain several monastery buildings, including the late Gothic Ulrich Chapel with old frescoes and the original high altar from the Ulm School.
