The building was completed in 1514, as can be seen from the Latin text of the copy of the building inscription engraved on the gable: "Abbot Leonhard Dürr, Doctor of Philosophy and both Laws, once erected this building to preserve the fruit and to protect the brothers from hunger even in hard times. It was brought to light by the village of Zell under Brotmäßigkeit des Aichelbergs in 1514."
The impressive building was converted into a modern municipal library in 1981, retaining its architectural features and offering a contemporary and attractive range of media.
