Made in 1580 by Isaak Habrecht, it shows the seven days of the week using the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. The months are shown in the middle circle, represented by twelve animals.
In the outer circle you can see days, weeks and months in gold leaf. Above the clock showing the time (centre), there is a panel showing the phase of the moon, and above that is a bell that marks the quarter hour.
The clock strikes on the hour: the cock crows every four hours from 8am to 8pm, and two golden rams butt heads with every chime. The artistic three-part frame of the clock was designed by Hans Kurz, the master builder of the Renaissance town hall. It is a masterpiece only repeated once by Isaak Habrecht on the Minster in Strasbourg.
