Description
Founded in 1593, the Botanical Garden of the University of Heidelberg is one of the oldest botanical gardens: important scientific work by Heidelberg botanists is inseparably linked to it and its research and protective collections are of great importance. There is also a herbarium with unique specimens. The Heidelberg Botanical Garden is a place of scientific research and academic teaching, protects endangered plant species, offers public educational programmes and is an important institute for the horticultural trade and its training. Last but not least, it is also a place of contemplation and recreation. The public offers of the Green School of the Heidelberg Botanical Garden cover a broad spectrum: Guided tours and courses, such as "through the tropics by candlelight" or "making natural cosmetics yourself" and even children's birthdays are on offer. There are also private guided tours on topics such as "Living fossils" or "Carnivorous plants". Offers for school classes and kindergartens impart botanical knowledge with the aim of developing pleasure in dealing with this living world, to feel appreciation for these natural foundations of life and to motivate the willingness to treat nature with care.
