In 1818 the building was bought by the Evangelical Lutheran congregation. They already used it as a school house. From 1843 to 1877, the newly founded 'Higher Citizens' School' was located here - with the classrooms below and the associated teacher's apartment on the upper floor. After that, the 'secondary citizens' school found its place in the new building on the old cemetery (now the Carl Orff school).
