There is a wooden kneeling bench in front of the cross. The cross uses symbols and objects to tell the story of the Passion of Christ. The pliers and the hammer, the nails and the ladder, the sponge on the reed, the spear and the flagellum, the robe which the soldiers cast lots for – all these objects surround the body of Christ. Right at the top is the rooster, warning against denying Jesus the way Peter did. This is an “Arma-Christi-Cross” (arma = weapons) which is relatively rare for the region.
