With its striking conical shape, the Hohenstaufen is the landmark of the town of Göppingen. On the 684 m high mountain are the ruins of the ancestral castle of the Staufers, which was built around 1070 and destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa is documented as having stayed "in castro stauff" in 1181. Hohenstaufen is also the centre of the cultural route „ Stra;e der Staufer“.

On the mountain you can enjoy a fantastic view over the entire district of Göppingen. Combine this with a visit to the "himmel&erde" mountain restaurant, or spend a cosy evening with friends at the barbecue area on the summit. Discover the charm and panorama of Göpping's local mountain for yourself - dare to make the ascent!
A well thought-out system of exhibition panels, audio guides and the modern documentation room at the foot of the mountain bring the Staufer period and its castle back to life in the mind's eye of the visitor.
