The Renaissance building, built around 1600 by Hans Stefan, fulfilled several functions: Until 1880, Heilbronn's butchers sold their meat products here under the open arcades, and the municipal court met on the floor above, where citizens celebrated their weddings and other festivities on weekends. Above the main entrance/east gable is a beautiful city coat of arms in an unusual design, and at the southwest corner is a well-formed stair tower.
Until the end of 2008, the house housed the Heilbronn Museum of Natural History. In 2012, the interior was remodeled and a delicatessen store moved in. Not far from the building is the bronze figure "Käthchen von Heilbronn" (artist: Dieter Läpple).
