The heart of the palace gardens is the parterre circle, which is criss-crossed by the main and secondary axes. The flower beds are laid out in the French garden style, each bordered by meticulously trimmed box plants and geometrically topiaried trees, so as to “put nature to shame by means of art”, as André Le Nôtre put it.
