The hilltop castle was first mentioned in 1180 under the knights Dietrich and Otto von Ringingen. In the 15th century, the castle fell into disrepair after being destroyed and was described as a "castle stable" in 1508. Restoration of the ruins began in 1972 during a local land consolidation.
Of the former quadrangular castle complex, which had a keep, other buildings, an outer bailey, a moat, a ring wall and ramparts, the fully restored and accessible keep and parts of the ring wall remain.
The short but steep climb is worth it. From the tower at the top, wonderful views of the colourful fields around Kornbühl. Nice barbecue area right next to the tower.
